NYERERE NATIONAL PARK (Selous Game Reserve)

Nyerere National Park, formerly known as Selous Game Reserve, is one of Africa’s largest protected areas and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Situated in southern Tanzania, this vast wilderness area was renamed in honor of Julius Nyerere, the country’s founding father. The park covers over 30,000 square kilometers, offering one of the most spectacular safari experiences with its rich wildlife, diverse habitats, and the mighty Rufiji River flowing through it.

Nyerere National Park’s vast landscapes range from open grasslands and dense forests to wetlands and riverine habitats, making it a biodiversity hotspot. The park’s relative remoteness ensures an exclusive safari experience away from crowds, allowing for intimate encounters with nature.

When to Visit?

The optimal time to visit Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) is during the dry season, from June to October. This period offers the best wildlife viewing opportunities as animals gather around the Rufiji River and other water sources, making them easier to spot in the thinner vegetation.
